Tradition
Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition. … Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition …Mark 7: 9,13
We look at the distortions and struggles during Jesus’ time on earth and wonder how so many people could have been so ignorant. How could they have been so blind?
This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men. And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand: Matthew 15:8-10
Today, we live in the Laodicean age with religious people that exhibit this type of character:
Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. Revelation 3:17-18
If we don’t recognize our potential blindness, then we will be the ignorant ones. We will be following the traditions and cultural impositions that distort the truth.
Only God can provide the eye salve to be able to see how twisted and distorted the church has become. Only by calling upon him to help us see can we realize how badly the church is in need of a drastic reformation.
But if you are like the Laodiceans, then you will think everything is pretty much okay with the church. Plus, if you don’t like the current religious establishment you are in, you can always try out another one and perhaps that will be more to your liking.
I thank God, that by his grace he opened my eyes. What unfolded totally blew me away as to how distorted the church had become over the past 1,600 years.
Just a little bit of eye salve should cause you to grieve over the state of the church throughout the world.
God used that grief to drive me into putting together a website devoted to bringing about a modern church reformation; a website designed to take us back into the dynamics of the early church.
If God has opened your eyes, I encourage you to check it out.
There is no call for funds; no advertisements; no attempt to start some new church movement. It will reveal the simplicity in following the one and only shepherd: Jesus Christ and what you can do about facilitating the church’s true identity.
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. Colossians 2:8
